The Janet Jackson Barbie Doll by Mattel has me at HELLO. I saw this and dropped. I cant wait to buy it. I was this lady when I was in the 4th grade talent show, and won. I danced, and rocked an earring with a key. If you are a follower of Janet's and American Idol, you will recall this is what she wore during her performance on the show, along with her new cropped haircut. At any rate, love her. People tell my daughter that she looks like Penny from Good Times ALL the time, so this doll will be a great add all the way around in our home. The proceeds of this doll goes to Project Angel Food.

I dont know if you watch The City on MTV. If you do, you know Kelly Cutrone. She is the
DIRECT founder of Peoples Revolution. I love this chick, ok? She just does not give a damn and I love it. Yeah she can be a little ballsy at times, but she's not talking to kids. She is like the

Get It Girl Spotlight: Patricia of PVE Design

This edition of Get It Girl Spotlight features Patricia of PVE Design. Let me just say that in the blog world, who does not know PVE? I am sure you have seen those initials around..She is like the person that you want to be your friend on the first day of school, and talk to as an adult because she is going to give you just what you need at the time. Seriously, I cant say anything BAD! I am sure you all have seen her beautiful art all over blogger headings, her kind comments on many blogs, and her ever popular blog is like morning coffee. She is blessed to have a wonderful talent which is art that you cant help but love. I hope you enjoy her interview, as it gives you just a little bit of an insight of what she thinks, just... outside the box I would say...Enjoy


1.) What are blog turnoffs for you? Blog Turnoffs for me would be lots of blinking advertisements or nasty language. I am not really one to look for turnoffs, I prefer to look for good. I guess if there are turn-off's.

2.) What made you start blogging, and what keeps you here? While searching, "All The Best" Blog came up and I was immediately in awe of blogs. I did not have a blog and it was thanks to Ronda at All the Best, and to Mrs.Blandings who inspired me and encouraged me to begin my blog. I really am so full of gratitude to each of them. They were honest and open with me. I remember asking if they felt like it was a monkey on their back! Thanks to my dear friend Kwana Writes for holding my hand to help me set up my blog. It is true, people think to be a blogger, you need to blog 24- 7.

3.) Is there anything that you would change about your blog or hope to add? Actually yes - I am in the process of changing my blog to coordinate back to my site. I love my site, it is clean and easy to navigate. I love blogger, but I just want a more "personalized" look for my blog. I feel that the templates offered are limited. Get ready for a brand new look, in a few weeks! I am so excited!

4.) Out of all of your posts, which post is your favorite and why? My favorite post? Each post is like a child. I would never be able to select just one! Each one holds a very special meaning. I guess my first post, well it was memorable and I was so nervous.

5.) Who is your favorite home design personality and why? My favorite home design, I do love that Eddie Ross, he is so cute.

6.) If you could design and sell something what would it be, and where would you want it sold? Design and sell - an illustrated book for all ages on the importance of play. Sold in bookstores and specialty stores and on-line.

7.) Favorites: color, personal item, household item, retail store, household store, blog, website? Color green, Personal item, ooh, that is a toughie. Household item, Cleaning product that I love are the Meyers products. Retail store, I love small shops, Mom and Pop shops. Fave blog, woo, there are so many that I love. I hate to name just one!

8.) Where do you do most of your blogging? I blog from my home, where I work. We have a computer banquette with a row of computers. My kids homework is pretty much all done on -line and they are my biggest helpers. They are light-years beyond me and call me a "Newbie"-

9.) Favorite magazine, design book? Favorite Magazine, oh I would have to say, I fall in and out of love with magazines... I prefer books, old books.

10.) What inspires your creativity? Life inspires me. I feel life in my work and know that it comes from living, from losing, from letting go and from feeling life in my work. Feeling the soul of the work, I think any artist can understand it or any person, be it a baker, a baby nurse, a teacher....! One has to feel the life.

11.) Is there a question, email, or comment from sent to you that made you say HUH? Yes, not to long ago. My mission for my blog is to design, to create, and to inspire an artful life. Many people e-mail and tell me how I have inspired them to re-think their career! I love that, how cool is that - to live life with intention - to make room for play, to love what you do.

13.) If you could start all over with a new blog, what would your main topic be? If I could start over with a new blog, a blog called "In Love" I think I would dedicate it to my parents, they have been married for 60 years and I am in awe. There is so much to tell, to inspire and to teach other couples. I would want it to inspire other couples, all ages. In this day and age, love is easily disposed. I value my Love! We all deserve to be in LOVE!


12.) What is the one item in your home that you would never get rid of, and why? The one item in my home that I would never give up is my view, my fire-place, my dog, my family. Oh that is more than one.

14.) What blog/blogs is(are) your first stop daily? Blogs I love, oh, so many, I adore so many. I try to visit many. See my list, I love All the Best, Mrs. Blandings, Easy and Elegant, My Notting Hill, Kwana Writes, Urban Grace,Simply Seleta.... so many that I love.

15.) We see where you are now. What do you think you will be blogging about in 3 years? 3 years from now, my sons will hopefully be in College, my youngest in middle school and my studio addition will be all completed. I hope to grow, to inspire, to build my body of work, to connect, to join a cause for children, to be given the right to play and do art. I would like to have some sponsors, perhaps a book, and to connect with other people who want to design, to create and to live an artful life. For each of us, it is so important to live an artful life, no matter where you live or what truly inspires you!

Spotlight: Kay* of Apartment #412, etc.

Happy Friday! Today I have a great "Spotlight". This lady has to be one of my favorite bloggers. From the beginning, Kay* of Apartment #412, etc responded to my emails when I had questions about how to do things on Blogger without a sign of me getting on her nerves. Truly when I read her blog, its like reading something from a friend that I have known for years. She is truly organic, and that I like. Her blog is mainly about decor and design, but there are always random through inns that just get me commenting away. If Kay* is not apart of your blog list, or you are not following her..you are missing out. She just moved into her new digs (which she loves) so now is the perfect time to follow her journey of decorating it. There is also Howard, her cute and adorable dog. Hope you enjoy the interview.

1.) What are blog turnoffs for you? example, not enough pics, or to much useless copy/paste from other sites?

I hate when I find a blog that I really enjoy and then there aren't any updates for a long time...like a few weeks to a month! I know most bloggers blog as a hobby and don't get any profit from it, and I understand that sometimes things get busy - but come on! Think of your readers and post something! I'll usually give the benefit of the doubt and still tune in but once it hits 3 weeks with no update the blog pretty much falls of my radar.

2.) What made you start blogging, and what keeps you here?

I actually got my first blog about 5 years ago but practically never updated it (I know i just complained about that!) and kept changing the focus - it was really just for me. What really made me start blogging consistently this time around was that I really just wanted a place to be able to document/share things that I enjoy and to document the decorating of my apartment. The awesome blog community, my readers (I still can't believe I have any) and their comments and input keep me blogging. Knowing that there's a couple of people out there who enjoy my blog and check in daily really motivates me to update regularly and try to keep it semi-interesting but still 100% true to me.

3.) Is there anything that you would change about your blog or hope to add?

There's nothing I'd really change. I hope to add a semi-regular post feature (that I've been thinking about a lot) in the near future and to get a custom banner made.

4.) Out of all of your posts, which post is your favorite and why?

Oh this is tough! I don't think I have a favourite. True - most of the time I blog decor and design and I love those posts, but I also love the posts I do on weddings, my random thoughts, travel, my dog...

5.) Who is your favorite tv home design personality and why?

Ack! I love Thom Filicia (Dress my nest) and Samantha Pynn (Pure style on hgtv Canada). Thom's interiors are always a bit traditional but a bit eclectic and a bit modern - he has a great eye for mixing styles and making it look 'right.' Samantha's interiors always have eco-friendly elements and she takes great measures in repurposing, reusing, and updating some of the clients pieces. Both designers seem to have a great personality, and aren't afraid to use colour! Their end results always looks liveable and reflects the homeowner. Plus, in just 30 minutes their rooms never look 'incomplete' or like 'Trading Spaces Houses' (shudder).

6.) If you could design and sell something what would it be, and where would you want it sold?

This is such a touch question. I think it would be fabric & (here's the key) it would be AFFORDABLE. there are so many great prints out there that cost hundreds of dollars per yard...even the "affordable" ones cost like...$99/yard - which to me is not so affordable lol. Fabric can help to totally transform the look of a space - whether you make cushions, curtains, duvets...even stretch it over a piece of canvas for art! so, yup, fabric it would be.

7.) Favorites: color, personal item, household item, retail store, household store, blog, website.
colours = black, gray, gold, shades of pink. actually, most saturated colours too.
personal item = laptop, iPhone
household item = television?
retail store = I haven't gone shopping for clothes in sooooooo long...it's been all about buying stuff for my new apartment...
household store = I don't have one in specific. I like to shop at a variety of stores...from Walmart & Target to vintage shops to higher end stores and random small boutiques.
blogs = too many to list...
website = yikes, too many to list...

8.) Where do you do most of your blogging? (room, work)

I blog from my laptop so I'm usually at the dining table or in front of the television....sometimes in bed.

9.) Favorite magazine, design book?

I've been reading InStyle, Essence & Marie Claire for ever. Those are my definite faves. Decor-wise it's Canadian House & Home, Style at home, and (the now defunct) domino. I don't have a FAVOURITE design book though I do find myself turning to domino: the book of decorating, Thom Filicia style & Colin Cowie chic quite a bit.

10.) Least favorite home decor style?

Minimalist, country, and anything that screams 'theme.'

11.) Is there a question, email, or comment from bloggers sent to you that made you say HUH?

Nope - everythings been pretty straight forward so far :) also, I don't moderate comments on my blog and have been really fortunate so far to have not gotten anything rude or to have arguments break out or anything like that.

12.) What is the one item in your home that you would never get rid of, and why?

Can I say my dog? Though technically his primary residence is now my mom's house. If my dog isn't an acceptable answer I'll say my mid-century teak desk. It was the first 'real' piece of furniture (not from ikea) that I bought and I just love it. The lines are so beautiful...

13.) If you could start all over with a new blog, what would your main topic be?

It'd be just as it is now. Even though I do focus on decor and decorating I still talk about anything else that I want to.
(note: I've recently started a travel blog because travel is a huge passion of mine).

14.) What blog/blogs is(are) your first stop daily?

Well, I have a bunch that I follow so when I log into blogger I check out the blogs that have updated. Some of these are: door sixteen, adventures in renovating a brooklyn limestone, i am styleish...does apartment therapy count?

15.) We see where you are now. What do you think you will be blogging about in 3 years?

Hopefully I'll be blogging about decorating and renovating my first (purchased) home. Mixed in with a bit of relationship/love posts ;)

Get It Girl (Nina Garcia)

Nina Garcia is my pick for "Get It Girl" of the moment. I love the fact that she has style, and power in the world of fashion. With Elle now in her past, and Marie Claire her future as fashion director, things can only get better. Fashion stalkers of course knew of her long before her Project Runway debut along side Heidi Klum and Michael Kors, but the show is really what gave her celebrity a boost. She is now an author of two great books that I even purchased called ONE HUNDRED, and THE LITTLE BLACK BOOK OF STYLE. They are fashion bibles for a woman's must have fashion items. She is a wife and mother of a toddler which alone gives her a thumbs up from me. I look forward to watching her vision unfold in Marie Claire, and her non apologetic opinion on project runway. Get It Girl!

"GET IT GIRL"-- M.I.A.

I don't know if you saw her last Sunday on the Grammys but she was due to have her baby Sunday. As of yet there is no word on the status of her labor. I was a week over due myself, so her week is coming near if she hasn't delivered already. Anyway....I dig this chick. Her style is wicked sick, in a different kinda 80's retro, space, kinda way. She describes her style as "other". M.I.A. is 31 and looks like she is every bit of 21! She was born Mathangi "Maya" Arulpragasam and originates from the UK and is of Tamil decent. Her hit song Paper Planes is fresh, different, and is my ring tone (ha). Her fiance Ben Brewer is a member of the group The Exit and is apart of the Bronfman family, which is one of the most influential Jewish families in the world (his mother is black). Their baby will be born with many different cultures, which I think is the coolest! They currently reside in Brooklyn, NY and this is her first child. I wish her the best! She is a GET IT GIRL no doubt! I wish I could see what her home decor is! Uhhh
