.) What are blog turnoffs for you? I'm a very visual person, so I really enjoy blogs that have a lot of pictures and less text. That being said, I tend to ramble in my own blog, so I know sometimes it's inevitable. But definitely, pictures are key. I rarely make a post without an image.
.) What made you start blogging, and what keeps you here? I guess you could say it was a "Resolution" of 2008. I mainly started because my entire family lives so far away, and I wanted a way for them to see what I was up to and who I am now. Although you can catch up with family through the phone and email, blogs are a great way to show them every aspect of your life, even down to the small little Etsy items your obsessing over. My blog has been such a blessing for me, because now, a year later, I'm able to do what I love and help people at the same time. I now get to help people with idea boards, blog headers and layouts, even wedding invitations and am able to have a creative outlet at the same time. It's really a win win situation for me!
.) Is there anything that you would change about your blog or hope to add? I recently did a blog renovation; that was one major thing I have been wanting to do for a while. I hope to add in the future an Etsy store. I've begun to thrift and I often find so much great stuff, I'd love to set up a thrift store on Etsy so I can share the neat stuff I find with my readers! I also would really love to get back into painting, and perhaps someday I can add that to my Etsy store, too.
.) Out of all of your posts, which post is your favorite and why? I recently wrote a post about our dog, Charlotte. She just had a very serious neurological surgery on her spine, and it was very hard for my husband and I. I tried to really document how it feels to go through something like this; so I'll have to pick this post. Most of my posts are very trivial, but this post I really poured my heart out and I hope it influences at least one person to not choose "the option option".
.) Who is your favorite tv home design personality and why? It would definitely have to be Eddie Ross. When my husband and I watched Top Design on Bravo, I turned to my husband and said "I just LOVE him!". And it's true, I do. I'm so glad I discovered his blog. My favorite thing about him is the way he can find the most wonderful, old things and turn them into something even better. He is a rare talent. Anyone can make something pretty with new, pretty things. But he does so much more than that.
.) If you could design and sell something what would it be, and where would you want it sold? Like I said in my previous post, I would love to start painting again and possibly someday sell my paintings (most likely on Etsy). My grandmother and great-grandmother were painters, and I'd love to continue the tradition.
.) Favorites: color: Gray (boring I know) personal item My Apple MacBook, I couldn't live without it. household item Our Dyson. I really hate to sweep and the Dyson works great for picking up pet hair on our laminate floors, retail store Salvation Army, household store Home Goods , blog I love so many decor blogs, but I'm not the best with fashion, so I study What I Wore religiously, website Overstock.com - you can pretty much buy anything on this website at a great price. I especially love it for linens and coats.
.) Where do you do most of your blogging? I work in Advertising, and it's either feast or famine. I blog during the famine.
.) Favorite magazine, design book? My favorite design mag was Cottage Living, but it got shut down :( I'm still looking for a favorite to replace it. I actually don't have a favorite design book at this time. I've been wanting to buy the Domino design book, and rumors are Eddie Ross is coming out with one as well. I would imagine those would be my favorite if I had them now.
.) Least favorite home decor style? Ornate and excessive and filled to the brim decor. I'm a firm believe in "less is more" and simple living. I live by the design rule that I don't buy things and put them in my home to fill space. I buy, and often just find, things that mean something to me. If I don't have something meaningful to hang on a wall, I'll hang a mirror or nothing at all.
.) Is there a question, email, or comment from bloggers sent to you that made you say HUH? Nope, my readers are really great!
