white to black

Last year I decided to paint my daughters floor white with concrete paint. As a parent I tried to work with the floor for as long as I could. But the white paint just was not ideal for my daughter. It showed the scuffs, and mopping was really no big help as indicated. I decided to make a change and go for an almost black concrete paint, and this works wonderfully. I am sure there will be some changes to her room because the black gives her room a more edgy look. Something a freshman loves.

Daughters Room Preview

I know you guys are wondering, where are photos of my daughters room. As I mentioned a while back. I am having a hard time getting photos that I am happy with because of the lighting in that room only. These photos really are not post-able to me, but I feel like I need to at least. This room is BUDGET BUDGET FRENDLY. Let me repeat. BUDGET FRIENDLY.

NOTHING COSTS MORE THAN $29.99 (EXCEPT THE LIGHT FIXTURE) and is mostly all a DIY. The room still is in progress and needs a rug, something else on the wall, and another pillow. I will say that she really like the look, and has kept her room CLEAN which makes my heart dance a jig.

Quilt: Wal-Mart ($20.00)

Waste Not (Canvas DIY)

I don’t know if you guys remember this “ART PROJECT” I called myself doing last year. Well the canvas was sitting in my hall closet, and I decided I needed to do something with it. Heck even paint over it. I then looked down and there was fabric that I purchased for my daughters headboard last year just sitting. So I thought the two should marry and have babies. This was just what she needed.

My daughter likes to display letters that we have written her. She originally framed the letters herself in the most teenage way you could imagine (horrible). So I think this is much better, and she is able to change things out as she pleases.

I actually made 4, but at this point I have decided to go with 3. This had to have been the easiest project ever.

So what do you think?

Ruffle Curtain

As usual I was at Tarjay just minding my own business, and spotted these ruffle curtains. I have always been a fan, but not of the price tag. This one was only $19.99 so in it went. They are a little short because they measure 84’, but would still work if I lowered the rod. If you like these. They also come in black which was SOLD OUT.

These run between $48-$78 on Urban Outfitters for each panel. Umm, NO. I refuse, but that’s just me.

What are your thoughts on the Tarjay panel? Should it stay or go?

Thumbs up or Thumbs down?

Round Two

We were in Houston this  past weekend and had a wonderful time. While there I was able to pick up a few things to move forward with my daughters room. Here is a preview. So far so good. I love it, and she is all smiles. She said it looks like a big girls room, a teenage room. But the smile was enough for me. Plus she promises to keep it clean. Fingers crossed. I worked on her room until 2am this morning. I am beat.

My favorite piece is there. Can you see it?

DIY- Concrete Floor

Behr Concrete Bonding Primer and Glidden Floor & Porch Satin Paint made me smile.

I get emails from time to time from readers asking me about my daughters room, and asking me when will I finish, and asking me to give her chance. As I mentioned she has a hard time keeping it clean, and I refuse to see it less than how I created it. My poor hubby even cleans her room. So I thought I would give her a chance after a talk, and started with the floor. I actually think this option is a good one for her right now. We wont have to worry about her ruining carpet or wood right now. I always tell her “WHEN ITS TIME FOR YOU TO GO TO COLLEGE, THIS WILL BE MY DRESSING ROOM”----so for now… I like what I did, and so does she. Hubby likes it so much he wants me to do something in the room that I painted black.

I am going to good ole IKEA this weekend. I am so excited, and plan on getting something's to finish her room on up. Looking forward to it. Stay tuned.

How was it done?

Mr. Styles ripped out the carpet while I was away to my surprise. I was all smiles and made a quick trip to Home Depot with my pregnant Sister. I picked up the two items below. No color added. Just pulled them off of the shelf. Hubby has swept the floor, so all I had to do was get a roller, extender, pan liner, pan…and roll the primer on the floor. I let it dry for about an hour. I then slipped on another roller and rolled on the paint. I let dry and used a sponge brush to get in the areas the roller could not. After that dried, I went over the entire floor with another coat of paint. The objective was the same as with the walls. No LINES.

Color Wheel

Every once and a while I will get an email from a reader asking about my daughters room, and when will I be done. Her room is an on, and off type project because of the state that her room seems to be in at times. So its all up to her, and consistency in my book. But I could not help myself, and decided to do this more for me than her just because I love these knobs so much.

These knobs match anything in my daughters room. I fell in love with them online a few days back, but they sold out by the time I decided to order them. Well I was at Anthropologie on Sunday, and there they were for $2.95…Such colorful beauties.

I think they totally enhanced the nightstand, and made it look even more pretty. There is just something about a color wheel that gives me the giggles, and makes me smile.

I have been asked about my daughters room a few times, and the headboard update. Well…lets just say its a bit on HOLD.

So for now. It stays just like this. Until I decided to finish up what I started. I have two other pieces of fabric that I was thinking of changing the headboard to. I now know that she needs a TOUGHER fabric for her headboard. A change is gonna come. Hopefully soon.

Headboard

Here comes the board…here comes the board. (singing the wedding song) In my daughters room. I found a Hancock Fabrics when we were in Houston so I figured I would take a chance on some fabric. I bought two colors, used one..and not so sure that its the one, but its working.
