Two weeks is what I was given as the turn around time and it shall be done. Yall I am so happy and so excited about this. I just smile from ear to ear thinking about it. My Granny slept on this very sofa for a short time, and on my dark days, I would lay in her place and think of her. So many memories. That's why I could never let it go. Someone gave me an idea to save some of the fabric from the original and frame it. THAT I WILL DO!
Here is the fabric! Can you believe they only had 2 colors in linen out of a gajillion fabrics. A white and mine. I was threading my nails in hope that the linen they had was the linen I wanted, and indeed it was..Damn I was happy. Until the girl tried to give me a 20% discount rather than the 30% that the manager promised. They tried to tell me they never offered 30% off ever.."UHHH get the manager on the phone"...I said. I was paying at that moment and I wanted no issues with the cost. And I got my 30% off. DON'T PLAY WITH ME! (LOL)
So here are the issues:

But remember what things I am putting in there. Should I not be concerned with wood color differences in the room regarding the sofa, future chairs, and accessories?
2.) Should I remove the tuffs and just let it be redone smooth?
They are replacing the cushions throughout the whole sofa, but if I wanted the tuffs, they would do them for free. But do the tuffs go with the linen look? I was thinking if I did it in velvet the tuffs would look great. I don't know. Comments please? Pretty please.
I decided to not keep the nail heads.
So pretty soon I will be saying bye bye to J Crew and Hello sofa...

In my opinion, you should keep the tufts. It adds character. And I LOVE that side table.
I dont think you have to match wood necessarily but I think this particularily piece will look so much better in a darker wood so I would definitely suggest staining it!
Normally I love tufting but in this case, I think the piece has enough details and the tufting seems to compete with that. So I'd leave it smooth. Especially with linen, you don't want to have a lot of folds in it.
Like Mrs L, normally I'd say any tufting's worth keeping, but I think on this piece, forgo the tufting. Let the linen fabric and the ornate woodwork be the stars of the show. I also agree w/ you on leaving out the nailhead (for the same reasons above).
A dark espresso stain on the woodwork would really make the linen pop! Can't wait to see the final product, girl!
i say - no tufting and yes to darker stain :) i've just read the comments above and see you've gotten the same advice.
you know my feeling on tufting but i think the wood is ornate enough that you don't need it. and the wood tone is a bit dated - i think darker will give it a nice bridge between modern and old school and look fab with the linen.

I can't wait to see the finished product. I say do a dark stain and no to tufting. The linen wouldn't look great tufted. Exciting!

hmmm. A tough one. I love tufted. But in this case I agree with Mrs. Limestone. I would take out the tufts. The rest of the piece has a lot going on. I think the wood work should take center stage.

I would do a darker wood and no tufting with the linen. Im sure whatever you do will be gorgeous though, keep us posted!
I agree with everyone else on the tufts. The frame is already so ornate, the tufts would make it look too fussy. Keeping it smooth also updates the piece and makes it look more modern. And definitely dark stain! Can't wait to see the finished piece!

i can't wait to see what it looks like! i love the tufts and i loe that you ditched the nail heads, sometimes those just don't work.

Light wood looks a bit country
Linen although I love, may not stand the test of time.
With out tufts, it will not even look the same -
just my pro's and cons - they usually help me to weigh the situation and make a decision.

I am so glad to see this subject on a blog! My grandparents also left me a gorgeous antique sofa and I LOVE the bones but not the fabric. I hesitated recovering it will now start looking into it. Thank you!
