Birthday to ME......

GO TAM IT'S YA BIRTHDAY, IT'S YA BIRTHDAY!
(in my uncle lukes voice)
It's finally about to happen...my birthday is next Monday, and I have my heart set on my camera. I have advised all DO NOT BUY ME JACK! DONATE TO MY CAMERA FUND! I currently have no camera since my daughter dropped my baby nikon, but that's only to prepare me for the BIG BABY!
Those of you that already have one of the big boys, where is the best place for me to go to get the BEST BEST BEST price. After all we are in a recession. I have been talking about this camera in my home for a while now and I know Mr. Styles (thanks Andrea) is sick of me talking about it, but I love photography. As a kid, I used my Mom's Polaroid instant camera as though I was a professional photographer. I was the kid that played the "photographer at club" when we played grown up party. I guess I recalled seeing my Aunts and my Mom's pictures of when they were in the club in the BIG wicker chair (I know everyone has the big wicker chair at the club picture in their family, right?) and wanted to be the person that took those cool pictures. Anyway...I look forward to getting it, and posting great pictures.

Tam you are a girl after my own heart! I'm so jelly right now :)...

I have always used Canon (currently a Canon Power Shot Digital for quick everyday photos and a Canon Rebel for my Black & White self developing photography). I have himmed and hawed over the Canon Xti Digital or the Nikon D40 and the D40 is edging out. I always go to Cnet.com for editor & user reviews for gadgets, PLUS they will list online stores with prices and usually the lowest prices available to the public.

I would stay clear of Best Buy and Ritz. Unless you can find a package deal that would include a bag, cleaning kit, extra storage card and some come with an extra lens.

Here is the link from Cnet - http://reviews.cnet.com/digital-cameras/nikon-d40-with-18/4505-6501_7-32156779.html?tag=mncol;lst

Ebay is another site were you can find "buy now" packages, but beware not to shop any stores from China.

Good luck, can't wait for you post photos.

Happy early b-day T!!!
Your camera should come w/ the basics(battery, charger, cables, strap, cap, monitor cover...)
I have a Nikon digital SLR cam w/ 12.3 megapixels & I love it! All of the extra accessories that I needed made my cost sky-rocket(tripod,lens filter, battery grip, telephoto lens,case,printer...)
It is my experience that when you get into the more advanced cams the package usually consists of a case and extra lens. I have not seen packages w/ printers...like you get w/ the smaller point & shoot digital cameras. Shop around & definitely do your homework and you will find a great deal.

You sound exactly like me last christmas. I must have had a dozen printouts of a canon rebel i wanted spread around the house and each week, i'd update them with better prices. Finally, chrismas came and i didn't get the rebel and i'm soo glad i didn't; way to complicated for me, instead my honey bought the canon SX 10 IS and for the first time, i thanked him for not listening to me.
