Do you, or have you seen butcher block countertops in person? I recently saw Genevieve design a kitchen on a budget using this option and it looked great. I never thought of this as being an option before, and it looks rather great in my opinion.

I love Butcher block counters! We are starting the planning our our ktichen re-do and I've been thking of butcher block counters - however I wih our new flooring, I don't want it to be too much wood.
If we had an island, I would so have buther block counters on the island

I love butcher block as a countertop, but it all depends on your daily use of the kitchen. My husband is a chef and so I'd be worried about the butcher block being high maintenance.
Yup! Love 'em! Rachel Ray uses a butcher block countertop on her tv show and claims to have one in her personal residence as well. I think that if they can stand up to her cooking they will stand up to the average homeowner's daily use.

I've seen where people have bought some butcher block for cheap @ Ikea and paired it with a dresser for an island. I think it's a great idea. Think about how functional it would be.

Love the look and these are BEAUTIFUL but I must give a word of caution on the following drawbacks of butcher block. They are not antibacterial, they will stain (burn marks, kids with markers or pens, food coloring etc.), be sure to condition the wood regularly with mineral oil or they will dry out and look very un-pretty, and they will dent or show knife marks if husband, kids or self tries to get by without a cutting board for a task. I don't want to be a party pooper just wanted to give you both sides. Even with all of that, it bears repeating... They are beautiful. On the bright side, they have made strides with butcher blocks as some are/can be sealed to fix the antibacterial and drying out problem.
Great idea! Although you can get them at a great price, but like Audra said they require a bit of work to keep them looking their best.
I love butcher block! Especially mixed with other materials (granite, soap stone, stainless steel)

Very Open! I love it especially the one that goes all the way around the kitchen. I would do the colored one in small doses, maybe like the center island one...nice!
I'm shopping for butcher block now. I remodeled my kitchen and went over my budget but need a strip for a ledge separating my dining room & kitchen. Butcher block is the perfect option.
I think the butcher block is a great option. My husband is getting ready to install a butcher block countertop in our pantry. We bought it at Ikea for $130 for 7 feet, that is a great deal. I like it with white cabinets, I think it has a clean look.
I think that's beautiful. I would love to do this to my home after we buy. I would do a darker wood.
Yes I've heard of this! But I hear if they aren't properly cared for they can cause boo-boos!

Butcher Block is a lovely alternative to granite (or faux granite). Its organic and earthy and projects a certain warmth.
i would SO get this in my kitchen...the modern & comfy look of it I LOVE!
