Design School

I am at a stand still here. I contacted a school here locally with the hopes of enrolling in design school. Guess what I was told? GUESS?…Please just GUESS?

(don't you hate when people say guess, just guess)

I was advised that the program was removed due to them not being able to find jobs for students once they graduated. Well damn. What you say Willis? I am not aware of to many other options. Lucky for Danka..she is on her way and found a school! Congrats girlie.

XOXOX,

Check out SCAD in Savannah. That's were I'm planning on going this Summer. Since I can't attend full time, I'm doing some courses/workshops throughout the Summer. Some of them are one day while other are month long (weekends). Their Summer brochure should be out soon, but the Spring one is available so you can get an idea.

What about taking interior design classes at a local Community College or cheking with a local University? Might be an option worth exploring...

I've been thinking about taking landscape design classes among other things for next semester (summer)

i'm with you on the "huh?" wow. i just applied for a grant through my state towards my degree and they told me that they cannot give me a grant as my field of study is not in high demand. so silly they are. :) keep searching and i agree with mrs. chic's comments, there are more than one school or type out there. even a local computer learning center that might teach programs you'd need. keep us posted!

Wow how disappointing. I think where I live the college still has a program but I guess people probably not hiring as many people to decorate their homes with the crappy economy.

If you haven't already, try ASID's website. They have a list of schools that offer Interior Design categorized by state. Good luck!!!

I can't believe they removed a program because people were not finding jobs... I have never heard of that before. Shame for you.

Hello to all. I am a graduate of design school, and I feel you should take note to what the school said. I have a BA in interior design and love my field, however I would not advise anyone to spend 60,000.00 for this degree at this time. The market is not supporting the field. My Architecture friends are having similar problems. I have been lucky to work in firms in Atlanta and Florida as well as have my own company in the DC area. My advice would be if you feel you have a true natural talent see you can shadow a designer and see what really goes into the day to day operations of a designer not a decorator (you don't need a degree to decorate). I am from Atlanta and am very familiar with SCAD great school, but that doesn't change the market. If there are no jobs available you're just stuck with a school payment and no where to go. Try doing it on your own take a class in AutoCad from a community college and go from there. If you're not interested in commercial design you can even get a contractors license and go forward. I agree with the school. SAVE YOUR MONEY. I LOVE DESIGN BUT IT'S TUFF IN THIS ECONOMY!

It is hard right now. I have one class left for my associates in interior design, but many people I know are having a tough time right now. You have so much natural talent that if you are not set on being a designer maybe you can be a decorator for the time being. One of my teachers has done very well and never bothered with the politics of getting her liscense. She does have her degree but legally can still not call herself a designer. Best of luck to you with your decision!
