Ever read a post, and think to yourself. DING. I was just thinking that? Well I was reading Camilla’s post about Virtual Newsstands, and heard bells going off. There seems to be a huge trend with online magazines right now. After Domino left us, we were all so hungry for a relatable shelter magazine. I don’t know if I mentioned it before on here. But my friend and I tried to start our own magazine back in the day because we wanted to create what was missing. These days, so many magazine have left us. And if there was one perfect magazine for me, it would be a mix of all listed below done right. I can see the fabness.
Each magazine has qualities about it that I love. But each is so different, which is why I have the need for them all. Honey has be gone for years. Actually I think Honey ended when we moved in our home. We all know the story of Domino. I have every issue ever made, and will never part ways with them. The other 3 are alive, and still kicking. I don’t know how strong. But I have subscriptions to Marie Claire and Lucky. I don’t for Living Etc., but stalk the book store for each new issue.
The new online shelter magazines are created beautifully. Photos, and graphics are the cream of the crop. But I tend to stare at a few pages after each read that leave me just a bit puzzled and in deep thought. All in all, my Kangol is off to them for taking that chance, and bringing entertainment to us for FREE.
Above are two of my favorite editors. Amy Dubois Barnett was the first editor that actually inspired me to read an editors page. For me it was HONEY Magazine, and I looked forward to it monthly like a cover story. I finally understood her role. She was our inspiration, and what we had hoped to be. My friend and I would actually talk on the phone and say “Did you read Amy’s page?” (laughing to myself as I think back). And then she was gone, but I followed her career over the years and supported each publication she touched. HIGH FIVE TO YOU AMY for your success.
And then there was Kim France. When LUCKY Magazine first hit the stands, I was magazine crazy already. But shopping was its niche, and I loved it. Kim just came across as that girlfriend that you would call on if you wanted to spend a few dollars on fab clothes, and chat it up afterwards. I loved how she shared that “editor” spotlight with her peers. She just screamed girl power to me. She to has left LUCKY, but I thank Kim for bringing fresh inspiration in every issue she touched.

It's amazing how many great magazines there are for women's beauty, life, shopping, etc. I also love how different each one is as well! Vogue has always been a favorite for its fabulous, artistic photos.

It's been so long, I almost forgot about Honey! I remember wishing the had a decor related section. What is Amy up to now?

I read most of the mags you talk about also. I loved Honey and had paid for a subscription when they stopped production! Never got my money back either! I followed Amy to the teen mag company that she worked on, but it wasn't the same. She also has a book that I often go back to when I need a little self motivation! She was down to earth and I could relate to her! She put so much of herself into her pieces. The book is similar. i too was a big fan of Honey magazine. What a blast from the past. And I admired Amy as well. I thought I was the only one that read the editors letter page. :)
