Designer Melvina has been sewing professionally for almost 30 years. She started out working
for a lady who owned a small sewing business making wedding gowns,
bridesmaids dresses, formal attire, and business attire for
corporate clients.  In 1998, She formed Anitavee's Home Décor. Her specialty
was custom drapes, bedding, and sewn décor accessories.  Over the last 5-6
years, she began focusing on African and other ethnic textiles.  She fell in
love with the different types of hand-woven patterns, colors, and textures of
fabric from different regions.  This is the inspiration for her current line
of pillows. Her hand drawn designs are inspired by African and other ethnic patterns, natural
elements, and various style periods from the past.

She will debut her next collection in early February 2011. It will feature many of the new hues from the 2011/2012 color forecast for the design industry, palettes that you
will begin seeing in stores within the next 6 months.  All fabric is
commercially printed on mid weight cotton canvas.  She personally makes each
pillow, using solid color linen or cotton canvas for the backs.  A concealed
zipper is added to the bottom seam for easy removal of insert.  If you would like a fabric sample containing all of the colors used in the collection, you may order it in her
shop.  Because she created this line as a coordinating collection,  you will
be able to mix and match the pillows in her shop with confidence.

Welcome Anitavee’s Home Décor!

African/Ethnic Décor

I love the use of the African/Ethnic esthetic when done right. In my opinion there has to be a balance because the patterns are usually bold. They make a true statement. Below are some images that I found that represents my favorite way to apply this style.

Ok, I am in love. I love African-inspired decor but I can NEVER find ideas. I'm a creative person but no so much so when it comes to decorating. I always need an inspiration photo to work from. Thanks for introducing me to Anitavee's!

Hey There Lady!
I'm super inspired by this post. Do you know if some of the couches were re-upholstered with Kente cloth, or Upholestery Fabric?

Thx
