Mr. Styles (ENTRY DOOR)

now

Here I am again. This time giving an update on the door to my room. I love old doors. They always remind me of my childhood, and take me back to when life was simplistic. I must say that my wife did not agree with me removing the original door. However, she softened up after seeing how much I loved it.

My brother and I stopped by this place that is just full of old doors, and other wooden goods. I wanted something old, and with glass. Think Rustic Welcome back Kotter. I am taking you guys way back. When I spotted the door, I knew it was perfect, and that it had the potential to look just the way I wanted.

Here is the door, as it came home with me. Old, and avocado green with layers of white and pink beneath.

Time for the old faithful paint stripper. This stuff works wonders on removing layers of paint.

This is the result after the first round. I decided to go a little deeper with a coarse sandpaper on the back of the door to see what results I could get.

Here I am working on the door with the coarse sandpaper. You can see how it worked wonders on getting it smooth.  I followed up (WITH THE HELP OF MY HIRED ASSISTANT TAMARA) with a few layers of Clear Gloss Polycrylic which is water based. It is more expensive then the oil based Poly, but it prevents yellowing which is what I needed. I wanted shine, with a smooth touch. I wanted something that reminded me of my wife dragging me into Anthropologie which I happen to like (THE STYLING).

This is the shine and look that I wanted.

So this is it. I still have to make some changes to the locks, and order the decal. I am working on one other door inside the room which is much more simple.

So what do you guys think?

High Fives,

Mr. Styles

Can you tell me the place that sells the old doors, I found one at a garage sale for $3, I stripped it and painted it red and I now use it as a headboard. I am looking for an old antique door that I can prop up against the wall.

LOL at the Welcome Back Kotter reference, I referenced Cooley High last week which ALSO starred Freddie "Boom Boom" Washington aka Lawrence Hilton Jacobs!

P.S. Love the door!

I am blown away. This was a GREAT idea. I would have never thought to take the decorating of the "old school room" all the way to the doors. The details is what will make your room very special. I hope you are going to submit this to some kind of contest when it's done, I already know it will be a room to envy.

excellent job on the door Mr. Styles!

aside from the cuteness of the Styles couple...you two make a GREAT TEAM. You need your own show.

I say you start filming this weekend and shop your documentary around.

I'm SERIOUS.

I’m thinking, “Why not buy a new door with a 70’s look then doing all that work?!” The door still looks bad after all that work.:) You can find beautiful vintage style doors in our modern age at http://crestviewdoors.com
