IT'S AHH COMIN

Well...I told yall I love photography. I always have even as a kid..I am doing research to see who has it for the best price, and which camera will I get...

I have been hearing so many good things about the Nikon..I have one now and its great..The Canon costs a bit more..I have played with them and seriously, I don't know what the hell I am doing because there is just to much going on. It is not a point and click...But I love that. It will be an investment for sure. So which is best? I know lots of you guys have one of these!

How fun! I have the Nikon d60 and love it. But I'm pretty sure I'd love almost any DSLR.

P.S. I got the couch I emailed you about!!! Someone's coming to look at it and quote me a reupholstering price on Wednesday! : )

I have the canon and I LOVE it! It took some time to learn how to properly use it, but well worth it. It does have a point & click setting if you want to use it~

GMoney has the D80. I could take kick *ss pics w/my eyes closed. It's a pretty penny. I hope to own the D40, which is faaar less expensive. I like to have separate tech things from him when possible. And he prefers that since I am really good at mispalcing stuff.

Anyway -- I have also seen pics w/the Canon Rebel & that is a winner, too.

I have the Canon Rebel and a few things I don't like are you have to take the picture by looking through the view finder. It does'nt show on the screen until after the shot is taken. Also it's hard to learn to use there is alot to the camera I don't know. Too lazy to read manual. I know the camera can do more. Good Luck.

When shopping for cameras make sure you check the prices at B&H photo. It's an institution here in NYC but you can shop online.

Disclaimer: I have no connection to the company whatsoever. Just a fan!

Canon and Nikins are, in my opinion, the only real choice in the dslr market. They are the leaders in the field so either way you can't make a wrong choice. One of the commented above said on her nikon u can't see the pic on the viewfinder until after the pic is taken...that's not a nikon thing-as far as I know this is the case on all dslrs-they are much more than point and shoots. If you are just going to end up using the auto setting I'd suggest just getting a p&s because there are many fantastic options. If, however, you plan on becoming more serious with ur photography and want to have more creative control over your pictures then dale is the way to go. It's more of an investment but depending on what u plan on doing the results are unmatched.

Having said that I have a Nikon d80. I'm still learning to really use it and love it. For the past little while i've only been shooting in manual mode which is making menlearn much faster. Keep in mind with the d40 it doesn't have internal focus which means you'll have to manual focus he lenses. It's an extra step and if you want to avoid go up to the d60 or up which have inbody auto focus :) I think the bigger decision will be once you've decided which brand ur going to go with is to pick an appropriate model. Something u will grow into may overwhelm in the beginning but u will grow into it if ur serious...otherwise a not so intense model might be the best. Hope this makes sense & is useful :)

Pls excuse any typos-sent from my iPhone

Personally, I love Canon much more than Nikon--for me, the controls on the Canon flowed better than the Nikon, and I also had tons of Canon film lenses that would work with the DSLR as well. The only thing I like about Nikon is that it has the "Vivid" color profile that I really like.

Also I hear a lot of people getting really bent out of shape about the megapixels--from someone who is pretty serious with photography, take it from me...unless you're a pro, or trying to blow up to billboard size, 10 megapixels is probably just fine (you can blow up to poster size while keeping good resolution). I honestly don't think many people can tell the difference between 10, 12, and 14.

I second the BHP Photo Video Rec!

I have a Nikon and love it but I can't really compare it to a DSLR Canon as I've never owned one.

Im sure you can't go wrong with either but whatever you decide, you are pretty much stuck with that brand for life (since all the lens and accessories will be compatable with later cameras of that brand) so choose wisely :)

I just bought a Nikon D60 and I love it. It's super easy to use and pics come out so crisp and clean. I start a photography class next week and I'm super excited!

The D40 does have an auto focus. Some of the lenses will require you to manually focus. The one that comes standard with the D40 body does auto focus.
