Come on baby blue...

I have started working on the dresser. It is coming along pretty well...except for one minor issue that you will see at the end of the update. I went with this blue because of the rug my daughter has. Plus its light and will look great with what I want as her bed.

(SANDED DOWN)

(PRIMED WITH KILZ SPRAY PRIMER)

(The primer sprayed on really well. I really like this stuff)

(PAINTED PEEKABOO BLUE)

(ALMOST DONE...LOOKING GOOD)

***PROBLEM***

I started applying some poly and the poly was sick. I dont know but it changed the color from pretty blue to aged blue. I think it was some what frozen from sitting in the garage. So I will have to do that drawer all over again, and buy a new helping of poly.

(See the poly sitting there like its waiting for a bus? I dont know....)

Up next will be the hardware. Stay Tuned.

That happened to me with the back of my sideboard, when I was attempting to do the stripes. I found out that the paint probably had not fully dried, and if it's not all the way dry, the poly will gunk up and make your project look antique, but not in a good way. It turned my white to yellow, and it was very hard to spread. Maybe that's what happened? Either way, thank God you weren't like me and didn't apply it to the whole piece at one time (like the top). THAT would've been bad.

Oh I wish I had a picture of my bedroom from the 80s...I believe that's part of a bedroom piece from Levitz from the 70s/80s....but it's looking seriously 2010 now!
Can't wait to see the finished product.

I'm talking about taming our tongues today!

I can't wait to see the finished product! I love the blue you're using. Good thing it was only one drawer you did. I usually start with the big peice and work the smaller after.

I've repainted a few pieces of furniture (nothing quite as big as your piece, but a few side tables)and Minwax has a spray on poly, which has worked great for the pieces I've done. Love the color and shape of the dresser, great find/great job!

It looks great so far! I need to try that spray primer, I hate the stuff you have to brush on.

Hmm, did you use the wipe on poly or the brush on? I have had great luck with the wipe on poly that was rec'd on Young House Love.

I like the color! I've only used poly once - one very thin coat.

I waited untill my buffet was complety dry (2 days) and then did a super thin coat of poly..I painted my buffet white and it turned out perfect. I know before you apply a 2nd coat of poly you need to wait 24hrs

Did you use spray poly or wipe-on poly? Also, what finish? Gloss or satin? I'll bet Annette will know why. She uses a lot. I've never had a color change from clear poly. I've been shouting out to you on some post lately. See my post on Fab finds. You MUST go to Horchow on Parker and Preston.

I bet your poly was oil based. All oil based will amber light colors and should only be used on black! You have to find verathane brand interior water based finishes, everything else will yellow. Can't wait to see it all done!

I would use a water based topcoat instead of poly! Poly always yellows with time and can become brittle!

Love the blue!

Thanks yall for all comments on the dresser. I used the poly in the can...the brush on.

Dayka- I am glad I tried just the top to..i would have been hot as hell.

Symone's Mommy- I want to go but I am afraid of the prices girl. One day when you go I will meet you there because I know there must be some deals then.

Holly- Thanks for the advise. I never thought about that. I always just use the same poly and keep on moving. I had no clue of all this, but I am learning though.

my fav and best- you think it was the primer? I liked the primer. It stuck really well and the paint stayed...and loved the word choo...I am telling you...sister from another mother girl...
