style has no age

Style. I went through it for a minute in my head the other day. Literally debating on what I should and shouldn’t be doing when it comes to my style. More and more we are seeing women over the age of 30 rocking some fierce edgy styles.  A lot of them are even mothers which makes the pie even more sweet. I have come to the conclusion that just because you reach a certain age, or because you have children…your style should become flat. Absolutely NOT.

For those of us that work within the walls of an office, this does not apply because I know there is a limit to professionalism. But when your off the clock or have a casual dress day, I believe in expressing your style, and not your age. Don’t get me wrong. I don’t think a 75 year old woman in leggings, and a crop top is cute. That’s not what I mean. Check out the images below for women that I think have great style, and forget their age.

Gwen Stefani

Kate Hudson

If this Kate’s shirt was a little longer. This would be me. Easy does it. But the hat gives it style.

What's your thought on age, and style?

My favorite is Ms. Halle, but all of them are fierce. I especially love their shoes and handbags and denim. Great pics! I’m inspired to rock.

I have always loved Gwen Stefani's style. I remember getting No Doubt's CD when I was twelve! I'm 28 and still listen to that bad boy! she definitely dresses more classic and timeless now compared to the 90's and early 00's when she sported blue and pink hair. Which I still love!! I have a huge girl crush on Kate Hudson. I have always loved her free flowing, hippie chic look which is how I use to dress back in high school. Still somewhat now. As a mother myself, I appreciate and love seeing other mother's (regardless) of age take pride in how they look. For some reason, they think we become moms and lose our style. I also liked that most of them wore heels while they were pregnant. I definitely did!

I ADORE Gwen Stenai's style. It's so personal and creative. I hope someday I can find my perfect style too and I won't stop until I get there (even at 31)!

I couldn't agree with you more!!! I get so tired of women thinking for one they don't have to dress cute anymore because they have become a mother or are older. The list of women you put together are so fly, great picks. They are some of my favorite STYLE STARS!!!!

SJP (as I like to call her) is my style icon... When I am in doubt I ask myself "Would SJP rock this?"
Style is definitely ageless... Thanks for this post.

I was just thinking of the same thing last week because for the most part, my style is a bit of Halle's, quite of bit of Kim K's
(2008-2009)and a great deal of Tracie Ellis Ross's (I love to turn on some episodes of Girlfriends for inspiration) BUT I also enjoy dressin in what I like to call "my b-girl stance", ya' know... some fresh Jordans, a BAPE or BBC sweatshirt and even a baseball cap sometimes but I questioned whehter or not, at 31 yrs old, if I should be dressing like some teens and young adults dress or let go of my kicks now?? :-\

You chose everyone with YOUR style Tams. You definitely have a signature look. Lisa Bonet,Seinna Miller, and Tracey Ross are my favs.

I am having the same problem. At 33, I don't think its appropriate for me to rock my jordans. A disclaimer: I only wear them on the weekends. I mean I would never wear a baby phat jacket, but classics like jordans should be ok, right? I mean I will never wear foamposites!

I agree w/Shanika. It's nice to see moms fix themselves up. Pretty images!

Man I'm repping fashion until the day I die. Of course what I wear will shift, no more belly-baring tops in my 50s and so on...but fierce, edgy styles are coming along for the ride for sure!

Love the blog...I'm a new follower. Follow back if you like ;-)

I LOVE Rachel Zoe...I used to love that section on Piperlime that she used to (or might still do) but I could never afford the clothes in the collection.....

My style is sooo flat right now...it annoys me.

I've always thought Catherine Zeta Jones and Elizabeth Hurley have great style for older women. And Gwen is just an icon!
